Convert Your Site to Mobile to Take Advantage of Google’s New Label

Starting today, Tuesday Nov 18th, Google will be rolling out a “mobile-friendly” label to mobile search results.  This label will become visible in global search results over the next few weeks and tells users which links will be easily viewed on their phone.

This will discouraged mobile users from clicking links that do not have the “mobile-friendly”.  If you rely on Google searches for traffic and new customers, you’ll definitely want to earn this label.  Sites recognized as mobile friendly will also receive a ranking boost.

A page learns the label if it meets the following criteria as detected by Googlebot:

  • Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
  • Uses text that is readable without zooming
  • Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
  • Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
